The Toast Hanging Mobile is a intricately crafted metal mobile by Joel Hotchkiss that represents a loving relationship of a man and woman, raising their wine glasses and toasting each other. The mobile conveys the sweet moments of life and love, symbolized by the rose. The eyes and various lines of each face are hand cut into the copper with a plasma torch allowing light to pass through the metal. Solid brass is then brazed onto both sides of the faces to add relief to the surface and create raised areas of bright golden highlights.
The final step is to heat treat the copper to bring out wonderfully exotic colorations that provide the finished surface with a sense of longevity and old world warmth. Signed and dated by the artist Joel Hotchkiss and lacquered. Fully assembled. 24"H x 24"W. For interiors only.
Alexander Calder made the mobile art form popular and was inspired by Juan Miro using bright, bold colors during the Mid Century Modern or Retro period of the 20th century. Now contemporary mobiles are used in a wide range of interior design solutions.
